Elite Tiny Homes | New Zealand
Transporting a tiny home requires careful planning and consideration of various factors to ensure a smooth and safe move.
If your chosen tiny home design weighs under 3.5 tons (like our 24 m² August and Maui models), it can legally be towed on New Zealand roads, much like a caravan or boat!
For our larger 29/30m² designs (Phoenix, Gia, Maui XL, Fantail, and Lowrider), which weigh approximately 4.5 tons, a flatbed transporter truck is legally required for the move. This process is a bit more complex.
Our transport companies often use precise hydraulic lifting equipment on all four sides of the tiny home for careful loading and unloading. If your site has difficult access for the flatbed transporter, a crane may be required to lift and unload at the other end.
The original tiny home trailer is towed separately but as part of the same convoy to the desired location.
Once you’ve chosen the perfect spot for your tiny home, we recommend contacting a transport company to make a booking. We’ve provided a list of reputable companies below, but you’re welcome to explore other options. As always, the team at Elite is happy to guide you through this decision-making process.
Potential obstacles like low-hanging trees, power lines, or gates narrower than 3 meters may be present at your site. The transport company and the team at Elite Tiny Homes may require photos or videos, and possibly a site visit (if local to Auckland), to fully assess the situation.
If leveling of the tiny home is required—something that often happens—there will be an additional cost, depending on the system used and the time required.
